Mike Stern è un chitarrista che si muove nell'aria rock-jazz e fusion. All'età di 23 anni entra a far parte dei 'Blood Sweat & Tears', mitico gruppo degli anni '70, suonando con loro dal '76 al '78. Ha suonato con Billy Cobham, Jack De Jonette, Don Alias (percussionisti), Mitchell Forman (keyboards) poi con anche con Jaco Pastorius, John Patitutcci (bassisti) con i sassofonisti Bob Berg, David Samborn, Michael Breker, Kenny Garret. Con Miles Davis ha suonato a partire dal 1981, incidendo con lui ben tre album (Man With The Horn, Star People, We Want Miles).Attualmente si esibisce dal vivo mentre l'ultimo album (Big Neighborhood) risale al 2009.

Questo è considerato il primo album del chitarrista americano ed è un lavoro di ottimo livello cui partecipano musicisti di primo piano da Jaco Pastorius, in Mood Swings, il pezzo molto piu' vicino al jazz di tutto l'album, David Samborn alto sax in Goodbye again, Bob Berg, Mitchell Forman e gli altri che sono diseguito elencati.
